Starting April 1st, 2025, any 3D printed models used in our game space are required to be fully painted.
1. What does "fully painted" mean?
Fully painted models have no primer showing, with details painted, and different materials distinguishable on the model. A good example of a fully painted model is the "Battle Ready" method by Citadel, which can be found here.
2. Does this mean I have to paint all of my models to play at BKG?
No! This policy only applies to 3D printed models. If you've got non-printed models for Warhammer (or any other tabletop game), you do not have to paint them.
3. Do I have to paint my models if I didn't buy them at BKG?
Only if those models are 3D printed!
4. Does this apply to printed RPG minis?
Yes.
5. Does this apply to printed terrain?
Yes.
6. Does this apply to board games?
No.
7. If I use 3D printed bits with an official model kit, do they have to be fully painted?
As a general rule, yes. We may make exceptions for simple weapon or head swaps. When in doubt, play it painted!
8. What if a company produces their models using 3D printing (like Warmachine)?
If the company does not sell STLs, and the models are available through us either as regular stock or special order, they do not have to be painted.
If the company does sell STLs, they need to be painted.
9. Will I be asked to leave the gaming hall on April 1st if my 3D miniatures aren't painted?
No!
We want to approach this with an attitude that encourages the community to engage with the hobby, and help you to complete the projects you're excited about!
If your goal is a fully painted army, we want to help make that happen. What we are looking for with this rule is to start seeing progress in what people are working on, and help you to put painted models on the table. If the first time you come in your models are only primed, we hope the next time you come to play they have some base coats on them, and so on. We also have events like our Wednesday hobby night to help you get those models done while also having an opportunity to connect with the community.
We have some very knowledgeable and talented hobby enthusiasts on staff who would be happy to answer any questions you might have to help you accomplish the goal of getting your models looking the way you want them to!
If you are showing up with unpainted models and not making progress, attempting to game the system, or blatantly ignoring the rule, we may ask you to leave. We truly hope it doesn't come to that. We want to support you, and we hope that in turn you continue to support us.
If you have any questions about this rule change, please do not hesitate to reach out through social media, e-mail, or in person with any of our staff.
Happy painting!
Near Mint condition cards show minimal or no wear from play or handling and will have an unmarked surface, crisp corners, and otherwise pristine edges outside of minimal handling. Near Mint condition cards appear 'fresh out of the pack,' with edges and surfaces virtually free from all flaws. '
'Lightly Played condition cards can have slight border or corner wear, or possibly minor scratches. No major defects are present, and there are less than 4 total flaws on the card. Lightly Played condition foils may have slight fading or indications of wear on the card face. '
'Moderately Played condition cards have moderate wear, or flaws apparent to the naked eye. Moderately Played condition cards can show moderate border wear, mild corner wear, water damage, scratches , creases or fading, light dirt buildup, or any combination of these defects. '
'Heavily Played condition cards exhibit signs of heavy wear. Heavily Played condition cards may include cards that have significant creasing, folding, severe water damage, heavy whitening, heavy border wear, and /or tearing. '
'Damaged condition cards show obvious tears, bends, or creases that could make the card illegal for tournament play, even when sleeved. Damaged condition cards have massive border wear, possible writing or major inking (ex. white-bordered cards with black-markered front borders), massive corner wear, prevalent scratching, folds, creases or tears.
