Join a fun group of other young Magic: the Gathering players every Sunday at Black Knight Games! Instruction for new players is available, as well as advice on deck-building and guidance on rules.
Most Young Planeswalkers events are FREE, and involve pick-up games with other players in a league-type format.
On the final Sunday of each month we will host a Young Planeswalkers tournament with the following guidelines:
Entry Fee: $2.00
Decks must be Standard legal
All participants will get a FOIL promo card! Winners win Hero’s Rewards!
We will be celebrating the sescond release of Magic: the Gathering: Shadows Over Innistrad block – Eldritch Moon – with an entire weekend of prerelease fun!
Entry Fee: $39.00 ($35.00 for Stronghold Members) or hand in 9 Hero’s Reward Cards
You Get: Everyone gets a Prerelease pack. All participants get a FREE Hero’s Reward Card for each event they participate in. Additionally there will be door prizes, and more fun (like taking Emrakul down with a horde of zombies!).
Prizes: We will add two MTG Eldritch Moon booster packs in to the prize pool per participant. Prizes will be distributed in one of two different ways.
Some tournaments will use an Original Prizing format like we’ve done in the past (prizes based on overall record with those winning the majority of their games getting the entire prize pool).
Other tournaments will use a new Balanced Prizing format, where tournaments will be 4 rounds, and each player wins a pack for every match they win (this will give less prizes to the top players, but will spread the packs out more). So double check which events have which prizing method and be sure to attend the one you prefer!

Tomorrow is our Anniversary Party and, of course, the AUCTION! So if you would like to enter any of your un-needed miniatures, collections, or games in to the Auction, please remember to bring them in at some point today so that we can get it all organized.
Enjoy the day off, and Happy Birthday Canada!
The Warmachine Call to Arms early bird period went well, and I’ve seen tons of cool posts from people in our Facebook group already of painted minis and cool ideals for conversions and lists. The official start date for the Call to Arms is only this week! There’s still tons of time to sign up, get involved, and paint some minis for the new edition this summer.
So now that we’re officially kicking this thing off, what are we doing this summer for Warmachine, how do you get involved, and what’s the new edition like?
Summer of Warmachine
We already had the first tournament of the new edition, which was a ton of fun and a lovely learning experience. What else do we have planned? The following is a list of fully-painted-required events. Each of these gives free or discounted to Call to Arms participants, but is open to anyone to play in.
Jun 30 – Warcaster Mega Battle – Bring one caster and slug it out!
Jul 14 – Warjack Ninja Warrior – Play through an obstacle course with your favourite Warjack or Warbeast.
Jul 24 – Zero-Point Mega Battle – Bring a warcaster or warlock plus their battlegroup.
Jul 30 – 75 Point Tournament – Our second large tournament of the new edition, and our first painted required one.
Aug 7 – 35 Point Doubles Event – A small tournament where you bring a friend and battle two-v-two.
Aug 21 – Brush of War Painting Contest – Submit models from the Warmachine and Hordes range into a painting contest with three categories.
Aug 21 – Rumble – A new format designed by Privateer Press for faster games played on a 3×3 table.
Sep 4 – Victory Celebration – Show off what you finished painting, play some games, and pull names from the Victory Draw.
So as you can see, there’s a ton going on for Warmachine this summer. We’re also having game nights every Thursday evening, and scheduling pick up games using the BKG Warmachine Facebook group (which you should join).
Now is the time to join the Warmachine Call to Arms. For only $30, you get free or discounted entry to all of the cool events we’re talking about, and you get to paint an army and share your accomplishment with the community. If you spend $150 in a single purchase for your new army, you don’t even have to pay that $30 — you get in for free!
You can participate in the Call to Arms even if you live far away and can’t get into the store weekly. There are several cool events, scheduled at different times in the week, and sharing painted models on our Facebook group is easy and interactive.
Each Call to Arms event you attend will earn you a ballot for the Victory Draw. Over the next few months we’ll be spoiling some of the amazing prizes for the winners of this draw. For now, let me just say there are lots of ways to get tickets for this draw, including participating, winning, painting, and playing games. The giveaways from this draw are going to be VERY cool.
Warmachine and Hordes New Edition
The new edition of the game has significantly changes every faction. Those old models you never painted before? Maybe they’re great now. That fun list you’d always wanted to play? Here’s an opportunity to build that army you’ve always wanted. The brand new edition is a great time to get involved in the game, to paint for the first time, to play more seriously, or even just to play more fun games.
We’ve got a store copy of the rulebook available for you to go through. The core rules of the game are available for free online, and the physical printing of the new cards will be available from Wednesday, June 29th. Jay already posted about the international shortages of product, so some decks might have to wait for reprintings. A few battle boxes will be available in store, and we’ll be restocking as soon as possible.
It’s hard to believe, but Black Knight Games has now been open for nine years! As always we plan on celebrating with our favorite people in the world: you – the BKG customers! On July 2nd we will be hosting an Anniversary Party, along with our always-popular Auction!
Draws: Just by showing up you get a ballot for the draws. You get an extra ballot for every $10 you spend that day including the auction!
Auction Lot Submission: We are accepting auction lots from customers until 9pm on Friday July 1st, so if there is anything you’d like to unload getting some sweet BKG credit in exchange be sure to bring it in soon! This is an amazing chance to get rid of old games and miniatures – and you get 100% of the value it sells for in store credit!
Parking: As you probably know our parking lot is not nearly big enough. Please arrange drop-offs, or car pools when able. Also please be aware of the few spots that are reserved for our neighbors!
The Auction: This year we will be running a similar auction to last year – one that includes both items from the shop, and items from customers wanting to unload things they not longer need. Last year went great, and now that it is tried and tested we expect this to be our biggest auction yet! Be sure to bring your wallets as there will be some great deals available. The first step is the silent auction at 1pm. Any items that have received at least two bids by 2pm are advanced to the live auction.
Silent Auction: 1:00pm, All items are available for viewing, and you can bid on any items you want. If you are the only bid you win, if there are at least two bids it will proceed to the live auction.
Live Auction: 2:00pm Every lot with at least two interested parties will be resolved one at a time through a live auction.
Remember that some items will have a Reserve Bid which means that unless the bidding reaches this hidden number, the lot will not be sold. Bids are binding, and can only be made in dollar values.
Cake: Of course!
