The tournament will consist of 3 rounds, with 2.25 hours allotted for each round. Roll for turn 7 as normal. Chess clocks will be used (and supplied by the store). Each player will have 60 minutes on their clock at the start of each game. If you time out there will be no penalty points taken, but you cannot make any orders for the remainder of the game. Lists can be a maximum of 2,000 Points. Armies from the main third edition rulebook and Uncharted Empires book may be used. Historical armies ARE NOT allowed. Army lists can be sent in early for review to alexander.kus@gmail.com.

Unfortunately, Easy Army has not been updated, please use Excel or Google Sheets to put together your army list. You should bring 4 copies of your list (one for yourself, one for each opponent). This is an open list event.

You are NOT required to have a painted army, but tournament points will awarded for paint and they will count towards your overall score and will be scored as follows.

10 – Three colour minimum on all models/units, no primer nor metal/plastic/resin showing, bases are painted and/or flocked, minimum model count or equivalent volume for all units
5 – 50% or more of the army is painted and based to the above standard
0 – Less than 50% of the army is painted and based to the above standard

This will be scored on a Pass/Fail system. Everyone starts with 10 Sportsmanship points. For each “Fail” you receive, 2 points will be deducted from your Sportsmanship score. If you Fail someone, please be prepared to explain your reasoning to the TO in detail. We are all here to have a good time.

All tables will be set up prior to each round and will be the same for each round, for the whole field.

All tables will consist of:
2 hills, 2 forest, 2 blocking terrain, 2 difficult flat, 2 walls.Terrain Height is predetermined:

Forests – Ht 9
Blocking terrain – Ht 6
Hills – Ht 3
Walls – Ht 2 obstacle
Difficult flat – Ht 0

We will be using the Northern Kings Scoring System, scoring sheets will be provided on the day of the tournament.

The sheets are very easy to read and fill out once you see them, you won’t need to read over how it works if you don’t want to. I will review them with the group before starting.

Prizes: We will put $20 (minus the cost of the pizza) towards a prize pool, which will be in the form of Store Credit. The top players will split this prize pool based on how well they do!

Here is a peek at the back of the card, as you can see you’ll be getting some great rewards just for consistently showing up!

MTG BKG Grand Championship Invitational 2019

The crown jewel of the MTG year at Black Knight Games is our annual Grand Championship Invitational. Last year was the inaugural event, and all year long players have been earning their spot in this exclusive event.

What is it?:  Our Invitational will be a prestigious MTG event that we host at the end of 2019.  The 32 participants will each be invited to attend based on their successes gaming at BKG over the past year.  The event will be a multi-format event, with the aim of crowning a single BKG Grand Champion, and presenting them with an exciting reward.

Who Gets Invited?: There are a couple of ways that our gamers might get invited:

  • If you are crowned ‘Champion‘ in any of the four seasons of 2019, you will be invited.
  • If you win one of our the major events, like our upcoming WPNQ, you will be invited. These events will list the opportunity to qualify in their description.
  • If you were the Iron-Player at one of the Prerelease Weekends (meaning you won the most matches over the course of the weekend) you will be invited.
  • If you are the top-ranked unqualified player in one of our ‘Last Chance Qualifier‘ events you will earn an invite.  The three weekly events in the week immediately before the Grand Championship will be LCQs.  In the case of a tie, for example multiple undefeated draft pods, the player yet to qualify with the best record in the Winter 2019 season will win the tie.
  • Remaining seats, if there are any, will be hand-selected by BKG, based on things like overall attendance, record, and loyalty to the community.

Invitations, other than those from the LCQ, will be extended in advance (likely just before Christmas), and we will also have a waiting list that we will keep in the case of some of our top 32 not being able to make it.

Paint Your Toys (SEASON FINALE!):
Spud wants to encourage players to get their stuff painted, so he’s offering a special prize raffle at every event in 2019. Tickets for the raffle can be earned in a few ways:

1) If your armies are fully painted, you get 3 tickets.
2) You receive one additional ticket (up to a max of 3) for each model you’re playing at the event that was painted in the last two months (purely on the honour system 😛 ).
3) Finally, each player will receive one special ticket on which they can write the name of the person whose models they like best (by whatever subjective artistic criteria each person chooses to apply!).

At the end of the day, names will be drawn to pick from a selection of three army starter boxes, including the new Wildfire factions! Note that this is the last of a year of Paintstravaganza events, so Spud will be giving away ALL of his remaining starter boxes! 🙂

Be sure to register on the ITS site at this link

All players are responsible for bringing their own models, dice, tokens, measuring devices, classified decks, and printed army lists.

I look forward to seeing everyone out on December 15th! 🙂

MTG Pioneer Weekly in November

This week Wizards of the Coast announced a brand new format: Pioneer! Pioneer is basically a format like Modern that doesn’t rotate, but it just includes a smaller number of sets. This means you can build decks without fear of rotation, and you can cut many of the more expensive elements of Modern out – so Pioneer should be a reliable set of cards, that are easier to acquire and aren’t as expensive as Modern.

Black Knight Games is excited to run our first Pioneer events, and we are starting off with a new weekly game night for MTG in the month of November. This should give players a chance to try the format, build some decks, and tinker a bit – and give us a real chance to evaluate the demand for this new format.

So if you are eager to be a pioneer of Pioneer join us every Thursday in November!

Date: Thursday Evenings in November, 6:00pm start time (registration begins at 5:30pm))

Entry Fee: $8.00 -or- 2 Hero’s Rewards Per Player
Stronghold Members: $7.00

Format: Pioneer, Swiss, 4 Rounds, No Cut,

Prizes:  1.5 Booster Packs will be put in to the prize pool per participant, which will be used to prize out the 3-1 and undefeated players. Players with the same record can expect the same prize.

In addition we will put 1 Promo Pack in to the prize pool for every 8 participants (minimum packs). 4-0 Players will get one, and the rest will be passed to other high ranking players, and random players, either as full packs or as random single cards picked from a freshly opened pack.
