MTG: Cheat for Charity Holiday Tournament

This holiday season at Black Knight Games we will be hosting a fun Cheat for Charity: A Magical Holiday MTG event.  Cheat in MTG you ask?  Yes.  Splinter Twin, Birthing Pod, Gitaxian Probe, Stoneforge Mystic and all the other goodies are UNBANNED for One Night Only and are more then welcome to join the party.  This is your chance to create the deck you’ve always wanted to and use it to battle for some outstanding prizes! What’s the catch?  It’s going to cost you for each banned card.

When: Wednesday, December 26th, 6:00pm

Entry Fee: $8 ($7 Stronghold members) – OR – 2 Hero’s Rewards.  All entry fees will be donated to The Alzheimer’s Society of Hamilton.

Format: Modern (ALL CARDS ARE LEGAL), 4 Rounds. Rules Enforcement Level: Casual

Prizes:  We have something very special for this Charity Event.  At San Diego Comic-Con 2015 Hasbro offered a limited-edition collection of double-faced Planeswalkers cards from Magic Origins. The five cards were presented with unique “black-on-black” illustrated by Wayne Reynolds.

4 – 0 players at the end of the event will have their choice of a Planeswalker from this set (most donations will be the tiebreak for pick-order).  Remaining Planewalkers will be distributed randomly in the door prizes.

In addition, we will have lots of Door Prizes, Promos, Hero’s Rewards and more!  Just because all the funds are going to charity doesn’t mean we won’t have great prizes!

Cheating Rules:  In order to use banned cards and cheats during your matches, you will have to purchase tickets.  You may purchase tickets before or during the event at any time!

  • CHEAT TICKETS = $2 Each

  1. Tap Target Creature
  2. Gain 2 Life
  3. Scry 1, Draw a card
  4. 2 damage to any target
  5. Opponent revels their hand
  6. “Counter” an opponent’s cheat

Now how are you able to use the cheats in the game?  Spend a ticket and use the effect you want at instant speed!  Your ticket then goes into the door prize pool for your chance to win some sweet swag!

Want to use a cheat more then once in a match? Pay double the tickets for the cheat you wish to reuse.  For example, you want to “Tap Target Creature” but you have already used that cheat, two tickets will let you use it a second time, and four tickets for a third use, etc.…

Using a ticket to cheat is like playing a card.  Priority rules.

For the cherry on top, we will give the Top Donor of the Day a seat at our Grand Championship Invitational Event!

So be a darn, dirty, cheat – after all, it’s for charity!

Nagash is Risen!

Undead Rising Final

Our 24-Hour Army Build Event was a massive success. We had participants assembling, painting, and basing for 24-hours straight. Some popped in for an hour, others much, much longer (or in the case of Brad the entire 24-Hour event!), but it was the collective of all participants that made the event amazing. Thank you very much to everyone that participated, and to everyone that donated as well.

So on to the results of all our labour. After starting with nothing but sealed product, over 24 hours we were able to:

-Fully Paint 9,787 points worth of Undead Legions! That’s 261 models fully painted, about half of which were based as well.
-Fully Assemble/partially paint an additional 1406 points that we couldn’t quite finish.

Wow! Way to go everyone, that is amazing! You can have a chance to fight with/against this massive new Legion of Nagash tomorrow Sunday) at 12pm when we play our mega-battle against the horde.

This event was in sponsorship of a great cause: Crohn’s and Colitis Canada. Black Knight Games pledged to donate $25 for every 1000 points completed, so with that pledge and others that we collected from generous donors our event raised $385.00!

Thank you once again to everyone that made this event possible, including Games Workshop who worked with us to get all these miniatures piled up for the army build. You guys rock!

Nagash Rises Tomorrow!

WFB Undead Rising

Our big charity army build begins tomorrow!  Over 10,000 points of sealed miniatures await our wonderful volunteers for the build tomorrow.  Anyone and everyone is welcome to join in at any time from 5:00pm on Friday Night to 5:00pm on Saturday Night.  So whether you are able to sit in and help for an hour or twenty-four of them we would certainly encourage you to pitch in!

Building the army is only half the battle though, the other is the fundraising.  Please help us support Crohn’s and Colitis Canada by donating!  We are accepting donation in store, which will be passed on.  BKG is pledging $25 for every 1000pts we finish, and you can pledge in the same way for every 1000pts completed, or just donate a flat amount – it’s up to you!

So join in the fun tomorrow for the 24-Hour Army Build, and help out Crohn’s and Colitis Canada in the process!

Black Knight Games Toy & Games Drive

Toy & Games Drive

Black Knight Games has always enjoyed participating in generating support for great causes.  This year we are joining up with City Kidz: Gift of Christmas to do our best to make sure local kids throughout Hamilton enjoy their holidays regardless of some of the personal pressures often experienced by many and associated with the Christmas season.  To that end we are pleased to present the Black Knight Games Toy & Games Drive of 2013!

There are several ways that you can participate and help us make an impact:

1.  We are an official Drop-Off location for City Kidz: Gift of Christmas, so you can drop off any toys or games here regardless of where you bought them.  Remember that gifts are for boys and girls ages 12 and under.  Gifts should be new and unwrapped.

2.  You can purchase gifts at Black Knight Games to put in the Toy and Games Drive.  Any gift purchase you make to be put towards the Toy and Games Drive will be at 25% OFF to help you donate something great!

3.  Many of our tournaments in December will give you up to $10.00 OFF the entry fee when you donate a gift (of at least a $20 Value before discount and taxes).

This is our first attempt at a toy drive, and we really want it to succeed, so please consider contributing to our Toy & Games Drive and help us spread the Gift of Gaming this year!

Warmachine vs Cystic Fibrosis 2013

Our community of Warmachine players has been regularly growing, especially lately in our much larger new space.  The new store can host us to 40 players, and our tournaments lately have been pulling in players from Buffalo, Guelph, Saint Catherine’s, and Toronto.  We’ve loved meeting all the amazing folks who’ve been coming out, but now it’s time for us to give something back.  October will mark our third annual Warmachine vs. Cystic Fibrosis tournament.  We want to show everyone that gamers are as generous and kindhearted as they are vicious on the battlefield.  And of course, we Warmachine players want to show the gamers out there that we do it best of all!

Our Cystic Fibrosis Fundraiser follows the structure of Foodmachine—we host a four round tournament and players may spend tickets to “cheat” in the game, rerolling dice and changing the rules.  Tickets represent dollars donated, and CF Hamilton is on site to provide folks with tax receipts and collect 100% of what is donated throughout the day.  Every penny of the entry fee and these tickets goes toward the cause.  Tickets may also be put in raffles to win door prizes (and we’re going to have some absolutely fantastic door prizes).

When: Sat, October 5th, 10:30am – 7:00pm.  We will be going four rounds and using Deathclock timing and Steamroller 2013 scenarios.  Tickets purchased on-site may be used for raffled door prizes, or to purchase in-game cheats.

Game Size: Games will be played with 35 point may include a second list.  If you bring a second list it might need to abide by Character Restrictions (but it might not!)

Entry Fee: $10 per person, which will be given back to you in the form of 10 Tickets.  This tickets are used in each game for cheats, rerolls, and raffles.  You are also encouraged to buy and use more tickets.  Every dollar goes toward a great cause!

Prizes:  As 100% of the donations are going right to our cause, all our prizes this year are donated.  We’ll be announcing many of them along the way, but this much we’ll spoil right off the bat:  1st, 2nd, and 3rd place will get Steamroller coins (donated by Privateer Press).

Raffles:  We’re offering folks the chance to contribute to more than just cheating, but also winning!  Raffle prizes this year are all donated, and we’ll be announcing a few over the next few days.

What if I can’t attend, or am not local, but I still want to contribute charitably?  here and Black Knight Games will cover having it contributed on the day.  Word to the wise: while donating this way is an excellent idea if you cant make the event, it DOES NOT entitle you to tickets for raffles or cheats in game.  If you’re coming out, in person donation is still the best idea.

UPDATE: International donors may still contribute to raffles using this button.  Lost Hemisphere Radio is covering the cost of having the products shipped to you.  Once we’ve announced all the raffles available we’ll email donors who are not attending in person asking how they’d like these raffle tickets spent.

WMH: Foodmachine 2012

We are renewing Foodmachine for another year, so break out your can-openers and open up ‘jacks for charity!  Foodmachine is an annual food-drive event where participants buy in with canned-goods, and can donate more canned-goods to get all sorts of great perks in-game to help them in their goal to be Foodmachine Champ!  This is the 7th year for Foodmachine, and the second year that BKG will participate.  Here are the details:

When: Sat, December 1st, 11:00am – 7:00pm

Game Size: 35pts

Entry Fee: $20.00 – Players may substitute 1 can/package of non-perishable food for $1.00 ea.

Charity Event: All money and food raised from the event will be donated to the Good Shepherd Food Bank.

Cheat for Charity: One of the best parts of Foodmachine is that we not only let you cheat, we encourage it!  There is an entire list of special perks a player can get throughout the tournament as long as they keep donating more cans.  Here is the full list of cheats.

Prizes: There will be some fun prizes, coins, and give-aways to be announced later, but the majority of our efforts will be to simply raise lots and lots of food and money for a worthy charity at this important time of year.

So join us for Foodmachine 2012, it’s the most generous gaming you can do!

Warmachine VS. Cystic Fibrosis 2012

Khador HATES Cystic Fibrosis…and you don’t want to argue with Khador!  You know what you have to do…

We will be running our 2nd Annual Warmachine VS. Cystic Fibrosis charity tournament at the beginning of October!  Last year we raised just over $620.00 for Cystic Fibrosis Canada and this year we aim to top it!

Prizes are being donated by some generous sponsors, and every penny of the entry-fee will go straight to this great charity.  You will also have the opportunity to donate further, and get rewarded in-game for doing so!

When: Saturday, October 6th, 11:00am – 6:00pm (please be prepared to stay until 7pm in case we go over time).

Entry Fee: $20.00.  Entire entry fee goes to charity, no discounts for Stronghold Members (obviously!)

Game Size: 35pts – You may bring 2 lists

Format: Steamroller 2012 Rules, Deathclock

All of the prizes have been donated!  Top three places get a Tournament Coin (Donated By: PRIVATEER PRESS)

1st Place: Your Choice of any one of the following: Warmachine OR Hordes Starter Set, Any Battle-Engine, Colossal or Gargantuan! (Donated By: BLACK KNIGHT GAMES), & 1st Place Coin.

2nd Place: Any Warjack or Warbeast, Excluding Gargantuans & Colossals (Donated By: TBD), & 2nd Place Coin.

3rd Place: $20.00 towards any item from Warmachine & Hordes (Donated By: TBD), & 3rd Place Coin.

Best Painted: TBD

Best Sportsmanship: TBD

Bring Your Loonies!
Throughout each round players will have the opportunity to donate $1.00 to Cystic Fibrosis Canada to buy a re-roll.  The re-roll is for an entire roll, so if a player rolls three dice for damage they would re-roll ALL three dice (players cannot choose to just re-roll 1).  Players may re-roll a re-roll, however in order to do so they must double the price each time (so re-roll the dice once for $1.00, twice for $2.00, three times for $4.00 etc.).  Likewise players may choose to donate in the same way in order to force an opponent to re-roll.

More Time Please!
We will be using the Deathclock rules in our games.  If you run out of time you may donate $5.00 to Cystic Fibrosis Canada to get another 5 minutes on your clock.  Each player may only do this once per match.

We also have a few more sponsors that we are waiting to hear from, so there might be even more swag, prizes or giveaways!  Check back for details.

So help Khador put Cystic Fibrosis in a head-lock, and participate in the great event!
