New Years Resolutions

Happy New Year!

With every new year everyone examines the things that they’d like to change for themselves in the upcoming year.  So I thought that it would be a good idea to chart out my New Year’s resolutions for the store for 2011:

  1. Online Store: Our online store has been a long (long) time in the works, and we are very near completion.  My goal is to launch the new site this month, and continue to add and improve on it throughout the year.  So in 2011 I resolve to have an operational and well maintained online store.
  2. YouTube: Black Knight Games is planning on becoming a useful contributor the the hobby community on YouTube.  We already have a channel that we will begin filling throughout 2011 with great instructional videos for our gamers, and gamers all over.  The videos will mostly be videos demonstrating how games play, how to paint miniatures, how to make terrain, game reviews etc.  Our goal with the videos is to make them with a very high production value, rather then pumping videos out.  Quality over quantity.  We plan to release our first video(s) this month, but I resolve to be consistent with our videos, releasing new ones regularly throughout this and future years.
  3. Demo Tables:  It has long been one of our goals to provide players with the opportunity to try out many of our games on our demo tables.  We’ve had demo tables set up for our core games like Warhammer 40,000 and Warmachine.  However, with the new edition of Warhammer, the recent rise of Flames of War, and the many other new and fun games that we have begun to carry we have fallen short of where I would like us to be.  So in 2011 I resolve to make demo tables available for many more games, and to cycle them regularly.  We plan to make demo tables for: Warhammer 8th Ed, Flames of War, Firestorm Armada, Dystopian Wars, Uncharted Seas, Magic: the Gathering and Kings of War.
  4. Gaming Tables: Our recent staff contest to make three themed tables was quite popular, and local gamers have really enjoyed playing on the new variations.  So in 2011 I resolve to have one or two more ‘showpiece’ tables made, and to cover their creation both on this blog, and in one of our BKG videos.  By keeping our gaming area fresh and varied we can continue to claim one of the best game rooms in the province.
  5. Forum Traffic: The Round Table forum has declined in traffic over the past couple of years (mostly due to lack of support from us probably).  However I continue to believe that it can be a great resource for our gaming community, we just need to get people using it again.  So, while we have already begun updating it and making efforts to make it better, in 2011 I resolve to make a continued effort to improve traffic, and therefor improve the usefulness of the forum.

Hopefully by making this list I have a better chance of achieving the points on it.  We now have a documented list of things that I would like to accomplish for the store, and for you our customers.  So if you see us failing in one of these areas call us on it!  Say “Hey Jay, where’s that Flames of War demo table you promised us?!?” or “Jay, haven’t seen a new video in a while, what gives?”.  I like everyone am just human, and need some motivation too.  However, improving the store, and our gaming community,  has always been a great motivation for me, and I resolve to pursue that motivation throughout 2011.

Happy  New Year, and may you all have a safe, happy, and fun-filled 2011!
