KeyForge Launch Event 2: The Redux

**UPDATE**  A surprise November blizzard decided to pop in for our big event, which meant many of our excited participants missed their opportunity to play in the Launch Event.  So we’re going to try it again!  Join us for another opportunity to get going on this year’s most anticipated game!

Keyforge, the world’s first unique-deck game is almost here, and we are very excited!  We will be running a Launch Event, including a tournament, to celebrate this new game:

When: Thursday, November 22, 6:00pm – 10:00pm

Entry Fee: $10.00 -or- 4 Hero’s Rewards

Format:  The event will have two parts:

Learn to Play: Everyone that participates will need a Keyforge deck either from the starter set (not the demo decks) or that they purchased separately, and tokens from the starter (or a suitable substitute).  Players will be paired off for a round of gaming to try out the rules.  We will have a staff on hand to help explain and clarify during this first round.  This round will not count towards the tournament, and is just to help players get their feet under them.

Tournament: After the demo round we will play a 3 Round Tournament.  Anyone that finishes at least 2-1 will win another Archon Deck!  It also gives you a chance to claim your third Active House card and a House poster. Finally, each of the event’s top three players will designate one House for the store’s Create-an-Archon poster.

Keyforge App: Don’t forget to register your deck(s) on the Keyforge App!  This amazing feature will allow all decks in tournament play to be tracked and rated/ranked – which will really help you earn some bragging rights!

So join us for the first tournament in what we believe will be a very successful new game at BKG!

Star Wars Destiny Regional Tournament

Championship Byes: Some participants may have a BYE CARD that they won at a Store Championship event.  These participants will automatically receive a bye (win) in the first round of the event.  The number of byes can affect the number of players we cut to (each bye card adds 0.5 ‘players’ to the count when determining cut)

Prize Kit: We will have the Regional Prize Support kit to give out, which includes:

All Participants: Alternate Art Card
Top 16: Plastic Cards
Top 8: Playmat
Top 4: Shield Token Set
Champion: Trophy, and a card granting it’s owner a BYE at a Nationals event!

Leftover prizes will be distributed to participants

Tier: Formal – This tournament level expects players to possess at least a minimal amount of experience. Players should be familiar with the game rules, and be prepared to exercise that knowledge to play at a reasonable pace. Players are expected to avoid confusion about their actions and refrain from other sloppy play mistakes. The focus is a friendly competitive environment.

Supplemental Prizes: Any money collected beyond the cost of the Regional Kit will be put in to a prize pool to be split by our top players.  We will announce the prize breakdown at the beginning of the event once total attendance is clear.  $20.00 will go in to the prize pool for each participant after 12.

Attendees: Black Knight Games can host 36 players at most, players are encouraged to preregister to reserve their spot!  You can preregisters in person at the store, pay with a card over the phone (905-296-3401), or via PayPal (button below)

MTG: Cheat for Charity Holiday Tournament

This holiday season at Black Knight Games we will be hosting a fun Cheat for Charity: A Magical Holiday MTG event.  Cheat in MTG you ask?  Yes.  Splinter Twin, Birthing Pod, Gitaxian Probe, Stoneforge Mystic and all the other goodies are UNBANNED for One Night Only and are more then welcome to join the party.  This is your chance to create the deck you’ve always wanted to and use it to battle for some outstanding prizes! What’s the catch?  It’s going to cost you for each banned card.

When: Wednesday, December 26th, 6:00pm

Entry Fee: $8 ($7 Stronghold members) – OR – 2 Hero’s Rewards.  All entry fees will be donated to The Alzheimer’s Society of Hamilton.

Format: Modern (ALL CARDS ARE LEGAL), 4 Rounds. Rules Enforcement Level: Casual

Prizes:  We have something very special for this Charity Event.  At San Diego Comic-Con 2015 Hasbro offered a limited-edition collection of double-faced Planeswalkers cards from Magic Origins. The five cards were presented with unique “black-on-black” illustrated by Wayne Reynolds.

4 – 0 players at the end of the event will have their choice of a Planeswalker from this set (most donations will be the tiebreak for pick-order).  Remaining Planewalkers will be distributed randomly in the door prizes.

In addition, we will have lots of Door Prizes, Promos, Hero’s Rewards and more!  Just because all the funds are going to charity doesn’t mean we won’t have great prizes!

Cheating Rules:  In order to use banned cards and cheats during your matches, you will have to purchase tickets.  You may purchase tickets before or during the event at any time!

  • BANNED CARD TICKETS = $5/Card
  • CHEAT TICKETS = $2 Each

IN GAME CHEATS

  1. Tap Target Creature
  2. Gain 2 Life
  3. Scry 1, Draw a card
  4. 2 damage to any target
  5. Opponent revels their hand
  6. “Counter” an opponent’s cheat

Now how are you able to use the cheats in the game?  Spend a ticket and use the effect you want at instant speed!  Your ticket then goes into the door prize pool for your chance to win some sweet swag!

Want to use a cheat more then once in a match? Pay double the tickets for the cheat you wish to reuse.  For example, you want to “Tap Target Creature” but you have already used that cheat, two tickets will let you use it a second time, and four tickets for a third use, etc.…

Using a ticket to cheat is like playing a card.  Priority rules.

For the cherry on top, we will give the Top Donor of the Day a seat at our Grand Championship Invitational Event!

So be a darn, dirty, cheat – after all, it’s for charity!
