Demo Day Recap and Upcoming Events

Wow!  Let me just start this off by saying this year’s demo day was a huge success.  Demonstrators for almost twenty different game systems taught an overwhelming number of new players.  We raffled off a $50 Gift Card and a couple of $20 Gift Cards to a few happy gamers.  To top it all off, we all had a lot of fun doing it.  If you missed this year, mark next year on your calendar well in advance as this is an event not to miss.  If you’re still wondering about a game you didn’t get a chance to have demoed, contact one of our Standard Bearers to set up a private tutorial.

For all of you out there who learned about a new game and are excited to play it, here are the next steps:

Players who tried out one of our TCGs, World of Warcraft the card game has a weekly WoW Battleground day, every Tuesday.

Our Pokemon league runs on Monday nights, and today marks the first release event run at Black Knight Games.  This new set is an exciting one, as a lot of the old favorites are making a return.

The Magic: the Gathering league for Return to Ravnica just kicked off again on Mondays as well.  We run multiple tournaments for Magic, with our Friday Night Magic events running every (you guessed it) Friday Night.  If you’re new to the game of Magic and want to start playing and collecting at the same time, our Drafts held on alternating Fridays are the best way to get involved.

Our major miniature games were not forgotten at demo day.  Warmachine and Hordes demos were popular, as always.  If you’re excited about picking up a Warmachine/Hordes Battlegroup we have the perfect opportunity: a journeyman league at BKG!  Starting on December 27th Black Knight will be hosting a journeyman league.  Entry is $25, which you get as credit toward Warmahordes purchases during the league.  Details will follow, so check back here.

For players excitied to start 40K or Warhammer Fantasy, we have a great tournament scene here and events scheduled every month.  Our next 40K tournament is a great one to bring a friend to, the ever popular 40K Doubles! (set for December 15th)  December’s WFB event is 1000 points and will involved a hero who gains power throughout the event.  Come on out on the 29th and Assemble the Chosen.

One of my favorite aspects of Demo day is the opportunity to show off some of our smaller-scale, skirmish games.  Will, one of our seasoned gamers, demoed Malifaux all day, a Victorian game of Gothic magic and terror.

Meanwhile Jim showed off Infinity, a game that just released an exciting campaign book.  I have an Infinity crew and always felt what the game needed was exciting scenario play, and now it has it.

Mykk was showing of Dropzone Commander (now in stock at BKG).  This 15mm skirmish game launched to fantastic praise and success, but low availability.  Now that it’s finally in stock and we’ve finished our first Call to Arms for it, players were excited to play it on Saturday.  With our Retake the Cradle Worlds DZC league starting Nov 20th, there’s never been a better time to pick up this new hotness.

I spent the day showing Blood Bowl to players and had a lot of fun.  Season Two for Blood Bowl is starting in January, so anyone keen to get involved should sign up in the store.  We will be collecting a minor entry this season to cover the cost of a new pitch and some sweet dice for all involved.  Sign up now while there are still spots!

Tim plays games. Rawr!

The last game I want to talk about has been a real hit here at BKG  — X-Wing!  We have a tournament day coming up that we’ve moved from December 8th to December 22nd to let us offer the new Slave 1 and Millennium Falcon as prizes.  If this game continues to grow in popularity we have a league planned for the new year.

We also had demos for Flames of War, Quarriors, Dominion, IKRPG, Pathfinder, and Dystopian Wars, but the day was so busy I don’t even have a chance to check them out.

Check back here regularly for updates on all of the above.  If you have a question or comment about anything happening at BKG feel free to email us or, better yet, post something up for discussion on our forums.

The New Black Knight Games

These are exciting times at Black Knight Games, as we have several major improvements and programs that we are working on to make your BKG experience even better!  Rather than just unveiling all of these improvements one by one we decided that it made sense to launch them all together in one major announcement.  Over the next few months we will go into even more detail on each of these great new improvements, but for now let me present the exciting projects that we are working on as part of The New Black Knight Games:

The Stronghold Game Lounge

Over the next several months we will be working on a brand new gaming space that will more than double the amount of gaming that we can do at Black Knight Games.  The Stronghold Game Lounge will be an expansion in the basement that will be nearly as large as the entire upstairs of the store.  At the moment it is a simple and dingy basement space, but we will turn it in to an incredible, clean, and bright gaming area that any gamer will love to spend time in.  When not being used to increase the number and size of our events and tournaments, the space will be open exclusively to Stronghold Members.

This is by far the biggest project we have undertaken since opening our doors over five years ago.  There are many ideas to be discussed and planned out as we hope to make this space more than just a set of tables and chairs; we want to create an exciting place for you to spend your time.

There is a forum discussion about this HERE, join in and voice your opinions!

BKG Community Funding Project

We have enough funding together to make this new gaming area happen.  It’s going to exist.  However we would really love to make The Stronghold Game Lounge something really special.  To help add to the awesome we will be running an indiegogo crowd-funding campaign where all funds raised will go to making the space amazing.  We would love to add things like a lounge area, great art to add to the atmosphere, fun entertainments like a video-game console, or a foosball table.  We would very much like to have some beautiful premium tables with amazing terrain.  We want to add food and drink options to include more than just chips and pop, but also simple meals and hot drinks like coffee or tea.

And, here is the piece-de-resistance: we want to open up this new space to be a licensed bar, allowing our gamers to have a beer with their Warhammer, and allowing us to run events like Drinking and Drafting (A Note to all responsible parents: If we achieve this objective alcohol would only be served at clear and designated times, by properly trained staff.  These times would be for those of age only).

So to help us get from ‘Room with tables and chairs’ to ‘incredible gaming area of your dreams’ we will need your help.  In our campaign we will reward donors with great perks based on how much was donated.  Donors will receive cool rewards and exclusive swag like Stronghold Memberships, T-Shirts, Playmats, Dice, and other even more impressive prizes like free tournaments for a year!  Every donor will also find their name on the Wall of Heroes in the new game lounge so everyone will know they helped found (and fund) the new area.  Keep your eyes peeled for more info once we launch our campaign.

Updated Stronghold Membership Program

It has been almost four years since we last changed how our Stronghold Membership program works.  Since then we have had many great ideas on ways to improve the program and make your shopping at BKG even more rewarding.  A new Stronghold Member program will be unveiled soon, and it will include several major changes:

  • There will now be additional levels to the Stronghold Membership, allowing our most loyal and committed gamers even more rewards.
  • Members will get even more benefits, including access to the new Stronghold Game Lounge as well as other perks.
  • Members will get reward options.  Discounts are still available, but other options like Free Entry in to a Tournament, Free Snacks, or Free T-Shirts will be available as well.

Please note that anyone with an existing membership will automatically transfer over to the new improved system, and any existing store credit will be maintained as well.  We will do our best to make sure that the transfer to the new program does not hinder you in any way.

GameShare Program

We will be presenting a new program to our customers called GameShare.  GameShare will allow you to pick games off of the wall, open them up and play with them.  Or, better yet, take them home and play!  Yes, you will be able to turn Black Knight Games in to your own personal gaming library.  GameShare will allow you to try out the many titles carried by Black Knight Games, and make informed decisions to help you buy the right game for you.

More information will be coming soon, but one thing is for certain: GameShare will make buying board-games easier!

Pre-Played & Pre-Sorted Board Games

To go along with the new GameShare program Black Knight Games will begin trading for and selling pre-played board games.  We will have three classifications of board games in the store, and it will be clearly marked which one is which.  New games will be games that have never been opened.  Pre-Sorted games have been opened, but have been only lightly used, they will be well-sorted in to baggies, and double-checked to ensure all of the contents are there and in great condition.  They will then be sealed in shrink-wrap and marked with a Pre-Sorted sticker.  Pre-Played games have been played more than once or twice, but will be sorted and have contents confirmed before being shrink-wrapped and marked with a Pre-Played sticker.  Pre-Played games will be discounted.

This new program will also allow you to trade in games, in exchange for store credit!  We will verify the contents, sort it, and mark it as Pre-Played.  And, you can spend the credit on  a new game!

We are very excited to be bringing you so many great new projects, and we hope that you are excited by them too!  Please check back regularly to see how we are progressing, and certainly leave us some feedback.  We will be starting a series of topics on the community forum to allow you to give us your ideas and feedback, so be sure to participate!

Back up at 100%!

After experiencing some downtime and technical difficulties that can only have been caused by over-ambitious gremlins in our interwebz chamber, our website is finally back up and running properly!  If you go to the forum, and it still looks like a jigsaw puzzle please clear your cache and it should look all nice and shiney again.

We are sorry for the disruption, and are very pleased to have it rectified!  Thank you for your understanding, and please stop mailing us severed pewter horse head bits in the mail, we got your message loud and clear and will never let you down again (not a guarantee).

Cheers!

Server Issues

***UPDATE: Things are back to running again. It is possible that early Monday we will have another hiccup or two while we launch the online store. Thank you for your patience***

I just wanted to take a minute to apologize for the issues we are having with our website this weekend.  We are in the process of launching our brand new online store, which will be live on Monday or Tuesday.  Unfortunately this has resulted in a temporary loss of some of our other areas, including the forum and calendar.  We are sorry about this, and assure you that it is temporary, and should be resolved early Monday, when the technical guys get back to work.

The only event that is this weekend is:

.

Warhammer ‘Ard Boyz tournament

When: Saturday April 15th, 10:00am – 6:00pm

Pts: 3000pts

Entry Fee: FREE!

Participants will have the opportunity to earn a spot in the regional tournament later this year, and the top three winners will get store credit!  Not bad for a free tournament!  See you there!!!

There is also a possibility that you might come across a link to the new web store during this transition.  If you do, please remember that we haven’t launched it yet, so while it is online and accessible, it is not yet 100% active.  We still have a major update to do, and still need to run a few last tests to make sure it is functioning properly.  Therefor please do not order anything from it (YET! – Please do try it out in a day or two once it has been official launched!).

Thank you very much for your understanding!

Forum: First Knight Award (February)

Congratulations to GameDemon, our new First Knight!   GameDemon is being rewarded as the biggest contributor to the Round Table forum community for the past month. GameDemon has been posting several great tutorials in the painting and modeling section of the website, and has been a great asset to the forum! GameDemon will have a special badge on his profile for the month, and has earned a $30 credit at BKG!.

Our previous First Knights, Agent Jim & Archaon, have been given an exclusive rank on the forum called ‘Knight of the Round Table’ to let everyone know of their valued service!

We will announce the new First Knight, from the month of March, next month!

Forum: First Knight Award (December)

I just realized that while we have already announced December’s First Knight on the Forum, we never actually announced it on the main site (here).

So, congratulations to Archaon, our First Knight from the month of December!  Archaon did a great job of adding to the conversation in many different threads on the forum, relating to multiple games.  He made some posts informing our forum users about some new releases & rules.  Overall, Archaon was the member of the forum that added the most to the conversation over the month.  He has been rewarded with a $30.00 credit at Black Knight Games, and will sport the snazzy First Knight logo on his profile until the next First Knight is revealed.

Our last First Knight, Agent Jim, is given an exclusive rank on the forum called ‘Knight of the Round Table’ to let everyone know of his valued service!

We will announce the new First Knight, from the month of January, next week.

Forum Issue Fixed

The error that people were experiencing when trying to register for the Knights of the Round Table forum has been resolved.  So new members may now once again join in the conversation!

Check out the forum here.

Forum: First Knight Award (November)

As mentioned previously we have decided to award a prize to the forum member we deem to have contributed the most to the forum dialogue, and the strengthening of the Round Table community.  This person will be declared the ‘First Knight’ and will carry the title for the following month, until a new First Knight is declared.  This person will get a $30.00 Black Knight Games gift card, as well as a special badge in their forum profile for the month.

We have our first winner, and that person is: Agent Jim!  Agent Jim has been doing a great job of promoting Flames of War on the forum, as well as adding to other discussions as well.  Agent Jim has set up a campaign, and rallied lots of players to the banner of a game that was previously fairly quiet.  As a result you can now see Flames of War being played regularly in the store, and the Flames of War discussion on the forum is one of the most active.  So congrats to Agent Jim, and thanks from the staff at BKG and the members of the round table!

The Forum Marketplace

I just wanted to take a quick moment to point out a big change in the guidelines for our trading area on the Forum.  We are now allowing members to trade away or sell old cards, games or miniatures in the forum Rogue Trader Marketplace.  Hopefully this will allow our customers the opportunity to get rid of old stuff that they no longer need, and help them towards the next new shiny game or miniature they’ve been eying!

Click here for the new marketplace guidelines.

Happy Trading!
