Forces: Every army must follow an Allegience (which can be a Grand Alliance, like Chaos, or a more specific one, like Breyherd).  Forces are selected using the Matched Play rules (General’s Handbook 2017, p.70), following the ‘Battlehost’ guidelines and utilizing the Rules of One and other ‘Matched Play’ rules.

Scenarios: We will be using ITC, General’s Handbook, & Rulebook Scenarios TBD.

Event Scoring: We will be using the Best Coast Pairings app for scoring, so if you have it (or want to download it) you can do so to make reporting and tracking even easier – but you don’t need to have it as our organizers will.  Scoring follows the ITC scoring for each scenario.

Prizes: We will put $20 per participant, minus the cost of the pizza, in to a prize pool.  The top three players will all get a share of store credit.  Additionally one unlucky player will be granted a free set of dice – to change up their luck!

L5R Tournament JAN

Our Legend of the Five Rings launch tournament was a lot of fun, and we are excited to host our first, official, regular tournament!

When: Saturday, January 27th, 12:00pm

Entry Fee: $10.00 /or/ 3 Hero’s Rewards

Stronghold Members Get: 1 Hero’s Reward for participating

Bring: Your deck, and any tokens you may need

Format: Swiss tournament (3-4 rounds based on the attendance).

Prizes: Unfortunately the official Organized Play program (Stronghold) hasn’t arrived, but rest assured once it is here our events will have the Stronghold promos and formatting.  So, for this event we will be doing strictly a store credit prize payout.  For each participant we will add $10 to the prize pool, which will be split among the top players.  We will announce the specific prize breakdown at the event once we see the overall attendance.

Additionally we likely have some leftover promos from the launch events, and we will pass those out as well during the event.

So join us, and bring honour to your Clan in our first L5R Tournament!

Kickstart: HATE

CMON’s latest Kickstarter project is unlike those of the past, in that it is very brutal, very violent, and very much meant for an adult audience, welcome to the world of HATE!  Like the previous three, you will be able to Kickstart this exciting new game through Black Knight Games!

Why Would I Do That?

Lead your tribe to victory over a chronicle of battles against savage opponents. Amazingly detailed and brutal miniatures await you.  Based on the “Chronicles of HATE” graphic novel by acclaimed artist Adrian Smith, HATE is a board game of brutal combat and conquest in a desolate world of savage warriors. Created by the same design team who brought you the Zombicide series, under the supervision of Eric Lang, HATE combines the gruesome artwork of Adrian Smith with exquisitely sculpted miniatures to immerse you in a universe of cruel survival by any means.

By pledging through Black Knight Games instead you get several benefits:

  1. You don’t need to pay shipping!  Normally you would need to pay a separate shipping fee when the item ships, this can often be as much as $50+ Canadian!  Pledging through us means you don’t pay that, nor do you need to remember to check your email to make the payment – or risk missing out!  Note: we do collect sales tax, but this would always be less than the shipping, and you are guaranteed not to owe any duty charges.
  2. Support your FLGS!  One hang up for many people when using Kickstarter is that you are bypassing your Friendly Local Game Store.  By cutting out the FLGSs you aren’t doing anything to keep their doors open to you and the other members of the local gaming community.  But, through this Kickstarter you DO support your FLGS – AND – you support the game you are excited about!
  3. Get the game early, just like if you had Kickstarted it on your own!
  4. Get any of the add-ons you want, just like if you had Kickstarted it on your own!
  5. Gain the flexibility of making a pledge, changes to a pledge, or additions up to a month after the Kickstarter!  As a partner store we are able to modify our order as long as their pledge manager remains open, so pledging with us allows you all kinds of flexibility – even the ability to pledge late!
  6. Do it all for no added cost!  Our agreement with CMON requires us to sell you all pledges and add-ons at exactly the same price as the Kickstarter.  So, you will pay $150 USD (based on that days exchange rate) for any ‘Hand of the King’, and the equivalent for any add-ons!

How Do I Pledge?

Simply come in to BKG, or give us a call, and we will sell you the pledge just like any customer order!  Pledgers must be 18+.

But, I Already Pledged Online – I Didn’t Know This Was An Option!

Kickstarter allows you to cancel Pledges before the cut off date, and CMON is really good about that kind of thing too.  Simply cancel and re-pledge with us!  Either way they’re getting the sale, and this way you gain all the above benefits!  If it’s after the cut off you can message them, explain you want to pledge with a participating partner retailer, and they shouldn’t have an issue with cancelling the pledge.

So get this amazing, and brutal game, and help out your FLGS in the process!

  • Each team’s army is classified as the same army with the restriction of one faction per team removed. Each player’s individual army still has this restriction.
  • Maximum 2 detachments per player
  • Interactions for specific factions/abilities can work between ally armies providing they all contain the required key words. This does not mean you can name two different factions the same key word to try and circumvent this rule. (an ork weirdboy cannot use da jump on a unit of space marines even if the space marine chapter you chose to name them is “speed freaks”)
  • Unique Characters are unique to the entire team army (no armies with two Sly Marbos or two Magnus the Reds etc.)
  • Strategems can only be used once per team per phase and all command points are shared. (3 for battleforged + the amount generated by detachments in both players lists)

Prizes: $20.00 per person (minus the cost of lunch) is all put towards the prize pool. Prizes given for Top three players, best painted and best sportsman.

Painting: Your Army does not need to be painted and based but it is always better to play with and against a fully painted and based army. There is prize for best painted (voted on by your peers). Armies that are not fully painted do not qualify for this prize.

Players are expected to avoid confusion about their actions and refrain from other sloppy play mistakes. The focus is a friendly competitive environment.

Supplemental Prizes: Any money collected beyond the cost of the Regional Kit will be put in to a prize pool to be split by our top players.  We will announce the prize breakdown at the beginning of the event once total attendance is clear.  $20.00 will go in to the prize pool for each participant after 12.

Gloomhaven Preorder Special

Gloomhaven is perhaps the most highly anticipated game restock we have ever seen.  It is a dungeon crawl legacy game, which is a description that doesn’t do it justice.  Gloomhaven had a successful Kickstarter, and saw very minor stocking in stores before the hype completely exploded, overwhelming the new publisher’s ability to keep up.  A new much larger printing has been in the works for the better part of a year, and now – Finally – we will have a true restock of this exceptional game at BKG, and stores worldwide.

Gloomhaven is currently rated #1 ALL TIME on boardgamegeek.com, and if you ask anyone that’s played they will tell you why – at length, I promise you.

So celebrate the best game ever joining our shelves in earnest, we will be taking preorders at a special price.  It’s time to get this game in to the hands of as many people as possible!

Release Date: Friday, January 19th

Price: $179.99
Preorder Price: $159.99

Preorder Deadline: Monday, January 15th
