40K Rapid Fire Tournament Tomorrow

40K - Tournament

Tomorrow we are running another Warhammer 40,000 Tournament!  This time we are trying something a little bit different as the points size is only 1000pts, and we will be playing five rounds.  Check out the details:

When: Saturday, January 10th, 11:00am (Registration at 10:30am)

Entry Fee: $20.00 ($16.00 for Stronghold Members), this price includes a pizza lunch

Armies: 1000pts, Battleforged Only with the following limitations: Up to 300 points combined may be spent on Fortifications & Lords of War.  Other than these limitations please refer to our Warhammer 40,000 Tournaments guidelines for army building.

Rounds: 5 Rounds, Each round will have a different scenario inspired by those on the rulebook, which will include one major objective, and three minor objectives.

Deathclock: This tournament will be the first 40k tournament that we will use ‘Deathclocks’ to keep the games on pace.  Deathclock is a format where we use chess clocks to give the players their time limit.  Each player will get a certain amount of total time for the game, and it is up to them to use it appropriately.  If a player ever runs out of time they instantly concede the Major Objective.  We will evaluate how the players feel about this format after this tournament, so please give us your feedback on it!

Game of the Month for January: Netrunner

GoM January

This month we will be taking a look at Netrunner!  All of the staff will be trained on Netrunner, and will be happy and willing to give you a demonstration – which will be set up all month long.  We just ran our first Netrunner tournament last month, and had a great response and a very good attendance.  We already have tournaments planned every month, including a Store Championship at the end of this month – so this is not a game that is going away.

Netrunner is a two player game that captures very well the feel of a scrappy hacker trying to take down a corrupt corporation.  Both the corporation and the hacker (aka ‘runner’) are very fun to play, and the game is easy to understand – yet deep.  The game was originally created by Richard Garfield (the creator of Magic: the Gathering) and this new edition by Fantasy Flight Games has been a massive runaway hit.  So if you, like me, have had interest in Netrunner but just haven’t had the time to try it out, then make sure you ask our Staff about Android: Netrunner – the Game of the Month for January!  I just tried it for the first time this week and I’m already hooked!

Game of the Month Demos: Available every day!

Game of the Month Deal: Buy the Android: Netrunner starter set and get any Data Pack for 50% Off!

WPN Down & Join me for Gaming today!

Two quick notes today for the weekend:

MTG FNMYesterday the entire Wizards Play Nework crashed.  We still don’t know exactly what the cause was, or how wide-spread it was – but it does seem like all the other stores in at least Ontario were affected.  This was discovered right as we were about to run our Friday Night Magic events for 52 players!  Obviously there were some panicked moments for us while we attempted to both get it up and running (didn’t happen) and to find a decent alternative to at least get the games going.

I just wanted to extend the gamers that played here last night one more heartfelt thank you.  We didn’t hear any grumbles, any blame-gaming, or anything out of you other than patience and understanding – and I was very impressed and thankful.  It was thanks to you all that we were able to get things on track so quickly, and once we had switched over to manual-mode things went very smoothly and we even finished on time!

We will find out very soon what went wrong, and I’m sure things will be up and running in no time.  We will certainly be submitting our full results manually (ugghhh!) but fear not we will certainly get you the Plansewalker points you have earned.  Thanks again – you guys rock!

Board Game Potluck

After the stressful night we had last night I am so thankful to have an easy-going event today!  Join me for fun, food, and games today any time between 12pm-6pm for our Board Game Potluck!  I will be here playing board games of all sorts, showing off some new ones, and teaching people to play others.  It will be a great way to close out the Holiday Break so bring some food to share – or just pitch in for some pizza and play some games with me!

Happy New Year!
