Call to Arms: Warmachine & Hordes

Warmachine & Hordes have taken over at Black Knight Games, becoming one of the most reliable games we carry. There is a great and active gamer base, monthly tournaments, consistent league-play and the biggest miniatures range we sell. Beyond that it’s just a very fun game. If you’ve never played before, or if you are one of the many players already hooked, now is a great time to begin an army. In Call to Arms Warmachine & Hordes everyone will begin an army at the same time. Each participant will get a deal on the initial miniatures, and have the opportunity to split the victory pool if they finish painting and basing their army by the deadline. In addition to this anyone can check in here to see their progress. So grab your paintbrush, fine-tune your ‘jacks and join in on Call to Arms: Warmachine & Hordes!

Entry Fee: $150.00

You Get: $175.00 towards miniatures for the contest (yes just for signing up you get a deal!)

Begins: Monday, July 16th  (Registration open now)

Registration Ends: Friday, September 7th

Deadline: Sunday, September 16th

Knights of the Realm: This event will count towards the points in our Knights of the Realm Warmachine & Hordes Season, and is worth a lot of points!

Victory Conditions: Each player must try to complete a legal 35 point Warmachine or Hordes force. In addition, the participant must contribute at least two journal entries to the Call to Arms blog by the deadline. Journal entries are simple updates on how your project is going, and can include details, pictures, or even links to a blog that you might have. Participants can submit their journal entries to

Victory Pool: In addition to the deal that you get right off the top, Black Knight Games will be putting $25.00 into a Victory Pool for each participant. Anyone that completes their force (fully painted & based) by the deadline, and has submitted their minimum two journal entries will be given an even share of the Victory Pool.

Deadline Gaming: On the date of the deadline, September 16th, we will be holding running a small tournament or mega-battles for all of the victorious participants. So you get a chance to play with your new army right away, against other fully painted armies, and against competitors with a similar amount of experience playing with it. This always makes for some very fun matches.

Armies: Forces must be a legal 35pts. Participants may use the miniatures that they have gotten with their entry fee, as well as miniatures that they already own as long as they are not already painted, or they may buy additional miniatures. If participants wish to use miniatures they already own they must prove that the miniatures are not finished beforehand.

You can follow all of the updates on the Call to Arms: Warmachine & Hordes webpage!

Table Top Episode: Gloom

Another great episode of Table Top.  This episode features another game that I had never really heard of: Gloom.  Gloom is a fun card game that focuses on making your family the most depressing, sad, tragedy-filled family ever, while trying to make sure your opponent’s families lead a very happy life.  Make sure that misery strikes your family the most and you win!  We will be bringing in Gloom very soon, so stay tuned!

On another note we final have Castle Panic in stock, and I can’t wait to try it!  In two weeks Table Top will feature ‘Fiasco’, which we have already brought in to BKG.

40K Knights of the Realm Season Over!

Congratulations to Phil, our first ever Knights of the Realm Champion!  Phil will win $100 in BKG credit, and have his name added to the in-store plaque of Series Champions, joining former winners of our Tournament Series’.  Well done to the other three as well, each of whom won $25 in BKG credit just for making it this far.  Thanks to everyone that participated, and we will see you all next year when Phil will try and defend his crown!

The Season is over! Congratulations to our four finalists: Phil, Jamie, Graham and Chris, you have each won a $25.00 Gift Card to Black Knight Games. These four players will play off in a round robin playoff round to lay claim to the title of Season Champion. The Champion will win an additional $75 in credit (for a total of $100!), and will have their name carved on the Series Champion plaque on the wall! Thanks to everyone that attended the events this season, and keep your eyes open for the beginning of next season!

We will contact those in the playoffs, but the battles will happen when you are able to arrange them with one another, and you must complete at least one battle per week.  It is round robin, so each player must play against one another once.  At the end the player with the best record wins, if there is a tie we will go to a tie breaker match.   Match-Ups and results will be updated on this post:

Smallworld & Canada Day

Just a reminder that we are having a Smallworld tournament this weekend on Saturday, at noon.  There are still some spots open, and it’s only $5.00.  We actually have some really cool tournament awards for participants and winners as well, including limited ed.  Smallworld turn markers!  Don’t worry if you’re not a Smallworld expert, the game is easy to pick up, and it should be a fun a casual event.  For more info [click here].

We will be closed on Sunday, July 1st for Canada Day.  We will be open as normal on Monday July 2nd, so hopefully that clears up any confusion there.  Enjoy your day off, and Happy Canada Day!

Thank You

A big thanks to all of the people that came out to celebrate our 5th Anniversary!  We had about a hundred people pass through.  The auction was bigger than ever, and lots of people were able to get great deals (some ridiculously good ones!).  We gave away several great prizes, like Warmachine, Kings of War and Warpath Starter Sets, a pre-order for the new 40K rulebook, a booster box of MTG from a very old set, and a $75 gift card.  Lots of people got games in, tried some new stuff.  There were sales all day long, and of course there was cake!

So if you weren’t able to come yesterday, and now you’re thinking to yourself  “man I should have gone!” You are right!  And we will see you next year!

Thanks to everyone in our amazing BKG gaming community for making five years possible, I can’t wait for the next five!

Black Knight Games Fifth Anniversary Party & Auction!

It’s Auction Day!  The cake is ready, the auction lots are prepared, now all we need is for everyone to arrive!  We have double the number of auction lots this year than any other year, so there should be a ton of great deals to be had.  Given the size of the event (and the fact that the Italian Restaurant will have lots of people for the Italian Euro Soccer game at the same time) parking is going to be at a premium.  If you are able to arrange a carpool, find alternative parking, or get dropped off that would be a bit help!  Can’t wait for the biggest event of the year!

It seems like only yesterday that we were painting these walls red…many many many coats of red, but Black Knight Games will officially have been in business for five years tomorrow!  It’s been a hard road, but one made so much easier thanks to the great customers that we have here.  The BKG gaming community is such a joy to be a part of so as always we want to share our celebration with you.  Later this month we will be having our customary Anniversary Party & Auction, here are the details:

When: Sunday, June 24th, 12pm-5pm

Auction: We always use our Anniversary Party as an opportunity to clean house.  As you can imagine a store like ours tends to accumulate all sorts of stuff, so we will be giving you the chance to get some great stuff at some great deals.  The auction will function like last year, with a hybrid silent-live system.  At 1pm the Auction will open with all of the items spread apart, and people can begin to bid on them.  At 2pm we will take any items with at least two bids on them, and begin a live auction starting with the current high-bid.  At the auction there will be all kinds of stuff, examples include: discontinued/replaced items, items with damaged packaging, used store copies or miniatures, old terrain, promotional items, items from ranges we no longer carry in full and many more.  There will be miniatures, board games, RPGs and CCGs.  Basically if you come to Black Knight Games with any regularity there will be something you would enjoy, and you’ll have the chance to get it for cheap!

Cake: What kind of birthday party doesn’t have cake?  Ours will that’s for sure (no lie!).

Door Prizes: We will also have several door prizes, covering all of the major games we carry.  Anyone that comes in that day will get a ticket, and additional tickets can be earned throughout the day for any purchases made (including the auction).  You will get to choose which prize you put your ticket in for.  There will be at least five major door prizes.

Random Rolling Sales & Deals: Every hour we will have a sale or deal on part of our inventory.  Any items purchased from that product line during that hour will be discounted, given a bonus product or extra raffle tickets for the door prize.

Open Gaming and Demonstrations: It’s not all auctions and sales, there will of course be gaming.  We will have some people running games to teach newcomers, as well as tables open to play on as well.

More?: Our Anniversary Party is one of our favorite events of the year, and is certainly one of the biggest.  We will always look for great ways to make the event even more fun, so if there is a very good idea that will make the party awesome we are open to hearing it, there will likely be even more fun and surprises than listed here.

So be sure to come to the party!  Afterall this is a party not only celebrating our fifth year in business, but also the loyal gamers that got us here.  So come, eat my food, play on our tabletops, get some deals, win some stuff and have a great time!
