Black Knight Games Movember ‘Stash-Off

This year Black Knight Games will be arranging a Movember contest!

Movember
During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces, in Canada and around the world. With their “Mo’s”, these men raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer. [more]

Happy Halloween!

The new guy Tim suggested that we wish you all a Happy Halloween, then he noticed a full moon and got more…um…insistent.

Please save us, we are hiding in the closet in the back…bring something to distract him…and an axe.

Free Dreadfleet Registration Contest!

Black Knight Games will be giving away one brand shiny new Dreadfleet game to a lucky customer!  How can you win? There are six (yes six) different ways you can enter:

1. Sign up for one or more of our newsletters

We have a great new monthly newsletter system that allows you to get news from your favourite games.  At the moment we have newsletters for Warhammer/Warhammer 40K, Warmachine/Hordes, Other Wargames, Magic: the Gathering, and BKG Headlines.  Each of these newsletters focuses exclusively on the gaming news, events and new releases for that game.

You can register for our newsletters in person, or by clicking here.

2. Become a Stronghold Member

If you aren’t already a Stronghold Member become one!  Stronghold Members get 5% off all regularly priced items, a discount on event entry fees and snacks and drinks, as well as other great promotions.  Memberships are $20 and last a year.  Check out the details on Stronghold Memberships here.  You can become one by dropping by the store in person.

3. Register on our Gaming Forums

If you aren’t already on the BKG forums join up!  The Black Knight Games forum is a great online community where gamers from BKG discuss anything and everything.  Registration is free, so join the conversation!  You can sign up here.

4. Like us on Facebook

Start getting updates on BKG right through your facebook account!  Go to the Black Knight Games facebook page here to ‘like’ us!

5. Follow us on Twitter

We post Black Knight Games news on Twitter daily, so following us is an easy and fast way to keep up to date on what’s going on at your friendly local game store!  Follow us here.

6. Post a Comment to this Article

Comment?  Yes!  Your BKG forum login also logs you in to be able to post comments.  So all you need to discuss the articles in our news blog is to be a member of the forum.  In the past version of our site this feature wasn’t very obvious, but now it’s super easy with the new forum design.  So post a comment down below and keep it clean!  Why are we rewarding you for this?  Well, nobody ever seems to comment on these posts, and we’d like to get the conversation going!  So comment on this blog post, and comment on any other ones that catch your fancy (although you only get in to the contest for this article…).

Its’s as easy as that!  Each person may complete one or more of these tasks, each one entering them in to the draw (so you can get your name in the draw more then once).  Performing each task will automatically register you in the contest.  If you are already a Stronghold Member that is actively involved in the forum, follows our tweets, likes our facebook page, you’ve registered for our newsletters AND you have some sort of bizarre fear of commenting??  Well…thank you very much!  You are truly awesome and we value your loyal patronage, although your commentophobia is a little strange but who are we to judge?

The contest deadline is Sunday November 13th, and the draw will happen on Monday November 14th.

Good luck!

Malifaux Primer Series

Mykk, the Standard Bearer for Malifaux is arranging for some entry level Malifaux Gaming on Mondays starting next week.

Hi guys,

I want to start a primer gaming series for Malifaux players to start next week and run to mid December. The idea is just to get people playing games, building off of their C2A crews and getting to know the rules better. In January I plan to follow up with a more detailed league/campaign hopefully with some prize support or incentives, but we can talk about that later.

I plan to be at the store Mondays to run games, but will be encouraging participants to play games whenever they can get them in towards this series.

~Mykk, Mailifaux Standard Bearer

So beginning next Monday, October 31st, we will be running casual Malifaux gaming nights on Mondays!

When: Mondays, starting at 5:00pm

Bring: Your Crew

Entry Fee: None!

Ending: Mid December

See you there!

Call to Arms Update & Paint With Kaz!

Paint With Kaz Tonight!

Our painting Standard Bearer Kaz will be in the shop today painting, and he would like you to come paint with him!  This is especially helpful for those in the Call to Arms: Paint off, because he is looking forward to helping you out with your entries!  Kaz will also be helping out with another painting workshop on Friday November 4th from 4:30 – 9:30.

Call to Arms Paint Off Update:

The Call to Arms page for the paint off is up and running.  There is still plenty of time left, so it is not too late to join in the fun!  For those already registered just a reminder to send in at least 2 journal entries.  Feel free to send in pictures of your works in progress as well if you wish.  Email journals to info@blackknightgames.ca.

Next Call to Arms!

The registration for our Next Call to Arms Event has not yet begun, but we wanted to announce it just the same for those wishing to plan ahead a bit.  Call to Arms: 40K will begin at the end of the current C2A event, and will run until mid-January.

Standard Bearers

We are putting the final touches on the Standard Bearers webpage, but I thought that it made sense to announce the Standard Bearers that we have selected to kick off the program.  The Standard Bearers that we have is not set in stone, we will certainly add Standard Bearers as we see fit, and some will move on and leave the program.  So if you have interest in becoming a Standard Bearer please let us know!  All of the information about Standard Bearers will be found here.  So without further ado, here are the current Black Knight Games Standard Bearers:

Warhammer 40,000: Ryan King & Brendan Fraser
Warhammer: Nathan Flameling & Marc Chabot
Flames of War: Fred Hamilton
Painting: Kaz Simaitis
Malifaux: Mykk Lowden
Dungeons & Dragons: Paul Millson
Dystopian Wars: Tom Keeble
Magic: the Gathering: Robert Gutowski

We don’t have a Standard Bearer for Warmachine & Hordes (yet) however we do have a local pressganger from Privateer Press: Ayden. So his contact information will be on the Standard Bearers page as well, as he will be serving the same role.

Congratulations to all of those we have selected, check back for more information on the Standard Bearers,  as well as see what they have planned!

Two-Day 40K Event!

Prepare for a tournament unlike anything we have ever done! Black Knight Games will be running a two day tournament this November, called the Two-Day 40K Masters!  The event will have two qualifier tournaments on Saturday, and the top half of each of the qualifiers will be invited to the finals on Sunday.  Each participant must chose which of the two qualifiers to register for.  There will be prizes for both the qualifiers as well as for the final the next day, here are all of the details:

How to Enter:
Register in person, or over the phone, for one of the two qualifiers. If you finish in the top half of the tournament you will be invited to attend the finals the following day.

Qualifier #1
Saturday, November 26th, 10:00am-4:00pm

Qualifier #2
Saturday, November 26th, 4:00pm-10:00pm

Finals (Qualified players only)
Sunday, November 27th, 12:00pm-6:00pm

Entry Fee: $40.00 ($32.00 for Stronghold Members)
Army Size: 1500pts

Scoring:
We will use our usual scoring system for the qualifiers, including soft scores for painting, sportsmanship, army composition and generalship. The finals will be scored strictly on a win/loss points system, without soft scores. Scores do not carry over from the first tournament to the finals, it is a clean slate.

Prizes:

Qualifiers
The Overall winner of the qualifiers will get a medal, along with some store credit. Additionally those winning ‘Best Presentation,’ ‘Best Sportsmanship,’ and ‘Best General’ will also get some store credit. Store credit will be based on the attendance of the individual qualifier. The top half of players overall will make it to the finals the next day.

Finals
The Top three players will all be given medals as well as:
1st place: A $200.00 Army, made up of models of their choice for any 40K army!
2nd place: Any 40K Battleforce
3rd Place: Any Non-Superheavy Tank/Vehicle (or equivalent, like Monstrous Creatures)

Space is limited, and this is the biggest tournament prize pool we have ever assembled, so be sure to sign up for the Two Day 40K Right Away!

Site Under Construction

We are working on a site upgrade.  So, if you see some strange looking areas, or missing links etc. that is why.  I will post an update as soon as the new site is completely up and running explaining all of our changes and additions, so stay tuned!

Call to Arms: Paint Off

With the Warmachine & Hordes Call to Arms in the books we turn to the next C2A event.  This time we are doing something a little bit different.  Rather then focusing on a specific game system, we will be focusing on painting!  In Call to Arms: Paint Off participants will have a month to get three entries finished for a painting contest.  Here’s how it works:

Entry Fee: $70.00

You Get: $75.00 towards miniatures for the contest (yes just for signing up you get a deal!)

Deadline: Sunday, November 13th, 12:00pm

Victory Conditions: Each player must try to complete entries in three different categories by the deadline. The three categories are detailed below. In addition, the participant must contribute at least two journal entries to the Call to Arms blog by the deadline. Journal entries are simple updates on how your project is going, and can include details, pictures, or even links to a blog that you might have.  Participants can submit their journal entries to info@blackknightgames.ca

Prize: In addition to the deal that you get right off the top, Black Knight Games will be putting $10.00 into a Victory Pool for each participant, as well as $5.00 into the Contest Pool. Anyone that completes their three entries (fully painted & based) by the deadline, and has submitted their minimum two journal entries will be given an even share of the Victory Pool.

Painting Contest: On the date of the deadline, Sunday November 13th, we will be holding a painting contest for all of the entries. There will be prizes for the winners of the three categories, who will split the Contest Pool (not the Victory Pool). Any entries that have been submitted will be judged, even if the participant didn’t finish all three entries.

Entries: Entries must come from at least two different game systems. Participants may use the miniatures that they have gotten with their entry fee, as well as miniatures that they already own as long as they are not already painted, or they may buy additional miniatures. If participants wish to use miniatures they already own they must prove that the miniatures are not finished beforehand.

Categories

Single Model: Any single miniature smaller then a 50mm x 50mm base. Examples would include 28mm infantry/cavalry, any Warmachine/Malifaux miniature on a 30mm or 40mm round base, a ship from Firestorm Armada, Dredfleet or Dystopian Wars, or a tank from Flames of War, etc.

Large Model: Any single miniature on a 50mm base or larger. Examples would include: a Warhammer 40K tank, Carnifex, Warhammer Stegadon, Warmachine Heavy Warjack or Battle Engine, etc.

Group: A group of five or more miniatures that share an in-game theme. Examples would include: A Warhammer unit, or 40K squad, a Malifaux Warband, a fleet or squadron from Uncharted Seas, a team from Infinity, etc.

So heed this Call to Arms and sign up today!
